Mixing Colors
is there anything wrong with mixing colors yourself, ?
ie
i now have red green blue starbrite. can i mix red and blue to make purple?
the reason i ask is because i recall it geting funky and grayish when i mixed B&R. not the purple i was going for.
maybe i did it wrong, or
maybe i just need to buy purple.
but it makes me wonder why they sell so many colors if you can actually just mix the primary colors. so there must be more to it.
btw... i just saw a post on different old forum that asked the same question. and the reply was get the fuck out of here with your ebay tattoo kit, hep c spreading scratcher. it was an amusing read. lotta these faggot ass tattoo artists/apprentices think their high and mighty and won't answer a simple question, always diverting it to scratchers spreading disease, Sanitary, BBP, etc.
a fucking piece of paper doesn't make you sterile surgeon. and someone with basic pathogen knowledge can practice better sanitary habits than some professional prick with little learning, or already do.
maybe you can put yourself above others for your artwork, but acting like you are the shit cuz you know you should not mix blood with anyone else's, and acting like a dick, then they are probably threatened by anyone else that may learn the craft and compete with them someday. quote: "May your entire family be horribly disfigured in a terrible accident." wtf...
and i've also read some ignorant stuff about how filthy and disease ridden tattoos in prison are. well guess what, today, in California, we're not stupid and not trying to spread disease. no ink, needle or tubes are shared and all precautions are taken to avoid cross contamination. its common sense and anyone tattooing anywhere knows all this, or are just crazy. in fact, you can tell (not 100% and not well known) when someone has hep c, you do them and blood starts seeping way too much. then you ask them do you have hep c? and the fucking piece of shit tells you then. so then what do you do different? nothing. just like at a shop. cuz you are already protective measures. you better be protected cuz buncha hep c in prison, especially the mexicans and its not because tattooing, its cuz they share needles with their homeboys. its that hep c homie love.
had to get that off my chest

you can mix colours to make other colours i think people just buy the colour they want as its easier ..ive mixed dark brown & white in a bottle to make a lighter brown same with black to get a grey

Re: Mixing Colors
I've seen a video on color mixing a while back. In the video the guys explained how colors have "bias" So your blue might have a green bias that when mixed with red will create a grey-ish looking tone because mixing complementary colors will mute the color. I think that's how it works anyway lol not really a color guy...I'll try to dig up the video though and post it for you

Re: Mixing Colors
i mix a lot of my own colours , just be careful with mixing brands of ink , i use all kuro sumi , and i use a little world famous , because they are made by the same people so you can mix those
Re: Mixing Colors
it depends on what colours where used to make a colour like electic ink use purple in there brown ink so you would ave to take that into consideration...

thanks bro, the video explains and shows what was going on.
i see mixing colors is much more complicated than imagined,
and the inks being different brands and consistencies,
then the need for experimentation and also a neutral medium like white or glycerin or water or alcohol or ??,
and the fact you still do not know how it all turns out in the end after heal
explains why they sell so many damn colors.
but i guess its still doable with some trial and error...
