Dotwork colored tattoo
hello.
so ive been trying few times to do dotwork colored tattoos however im not sure if im doing it wrong or something but when the ink goes into the skin and i finish the tattoo then the color looks really nice bright and strong however when it heals then the color comes out to be pale as hell just like the tattoo faded or something and that only happened with colors and not black or grey. any ideas?
im using a coil machine and a 3rl.
which brings me to my other questing. when doing dotwork tattoos is there a specific needle size that i should be using? or doest only depend on how complicated and small the design is?
would appreciate some answers

Re: Dotwork colored tattoo
Hi, iv never done any dotwork tattoos so can't really comment on this much.
Maybe try a textured needle? A lot of people say they put color in to the skin better.
Maybe slow your machine down a little bit? B+G is a lot easier to get into the skin than color so that might help.
Im sure that someone here with more experience will correct me if im wrong and give you the answer your looking for..

colour dot work shouldnt be a problem i have done quite a bit , what you need is a few passes i did a dotwork colour butter fly not long ago its had 2 passes and its look lovley but a third would bring out more darker tones making the lighter look lighter if that makes sense , you need at least a 5rl for colour dot work , what inks are you using ?
Re: Dotwork colored tattoo
thanks for the answers guys.
so thiss the tattoo i was talking about, it went much lighter now but still looks cool.

i've used a 5rl and bullets ink for this one. Now im using 3rl for my dotwork but still i feel sometimes that its too thick.

Re: Dotwork colored tattoo
it may well that your machine isnt tunes properly then , its either ink or technique , maybe have a tinker with your machine , how does it run ? and please dont take this the wrong way , just because coko made it doesnt mean your using it right
Re: Dotwork colored tattoo
looking at your other work on instagram it looks like you machine is isnt tuned properly , the thing is with dot work yes it looks very fine and dainty but the technique isnt , anyone will tell you with colour tattoos you have to be a bit brutal ,and i can tell from your work that you dont have a huge amount of experience , that tree is a difficult little design to pull off anyway and your dotworking colour in , why not just learn how to line ? your tattoo would be much cleaner
