I do my own thing with refrencing traditional

Post by Valleykat on Tue Feb 14, 2017 9:58 pm

Here are a few of my artwork a traditional approach but i realize its not exactly traditional, i am using copic markers on watercolor paper and i am purposely making the shading look blocky, when i do tattoo my drawings i try and pepper shade

some of the designs are nice but i dont like to copic marker shading to be honest , if you want to do well in a style practice it on paper but approach the same way you would a tattoo.
your shading is very blocky just like the drawings , obviously pepper shading with a pencil is very difficult but you could draw your traditional designs to look more.... traditional Very Happy

shading with copic markers doesn't give you traditional effect you want to master , the only way you can really master anything is to practice

I think i need to start spit shading with watercolor inks to get that peppered effect on a good quality paper but i have alot of fun with the copics just need to start with the old style painting techniques

I don't like the idea of the blocky shading but the designs are good.
Get some good quality watercolour paper and some Indian ink for spit shading.

you can shade out with the brush end of the copic so it goes from dark to light

if you want to do traditional then put the markers down & pick up the water colours it will help you understand the whole concept better

try not to do the girls jaws so blocky..they need to look famine not masculine
