solid fill not coming out so great

Post by Ketchup Kid on Thu May 05, 2016 6:36 pm

i did this last night. i've never done this sort of thing. you can clearly see i am having problems with edges.

i did the outline freehand 4RL (shouldn't have done that) and it was really horrible, months went by.

i got a 3rs fixed the outline while filling in, machine broke halfway, weeks went by

i got a 3RS again and picked up where is left off and but after i was done i realized it was actually a 5RS (stupid)

i would have filled in more, but i was afraid of overworking skin, plus i wanted to stop for now.

i plan to go again with the 3 rs, i can't think of any thing else.

some of the outline looks raised to me, did my original liner damage the skin?

what is the proper way to do this type of tattoo in one sitting? what should i be doing different?

Looks scarred a bit, you'll want to leave that a while until it doesn't look shiny anymore, in future try a small mag, maybe a 7 curved, and don't overwork the skin too much.

i would say a 3 anything is too small a grouping for that tattoo to be honest , you have prob overworked it trying to get the black in smooth , i would try a 7 rs and a 7 rl for something that size

the tattoo is about 8 inches or 20cm?
yes i realized that now, i sort of knew i shouldn't be using a 3 and being hasty
my plan is to do another pass with a bigger group and smoothe it out best i can.
there may be scar tissue tho.

do i have to wait for it to FULLY heal before i go at it again?

yes i would give it a few weeks before you touch it again , otherwise your just giving your skin a reason to be pissed off and its much harder to get the ink in then

Would anyone else line it in black first, or blood/grey line then shade?

Also would you use lining ink throughout or a different ink? I've seen 'tribal ink' for sale for example.

Meant to say Reset: Good description of process and nice to see a close up image, when necessary

there is no point blood lining tribal , thats basically what that is a small piece of tribal , you want a good solid outline on tribal or anything solid black , blood lining is used in realism more , with something like that tattoo you need a solid outline before you can solid colour in

depend on what ink you use , i ise dynamic because its a great all round ink i dont need to waste time messing about changing inks , dynamic is the best black ink out there in my opinion , i use it for lining solid fill and whip shading

I bought Panthera for testing but happy to look at other stuff once I'm live...which I think will be quite soon. I'm sick to death of the smell of pork at room temperature.

well i approached the whole thing wrong from the gate. now i would do it differently, mainly bigger needle groups and better fill in all in one sitting, then one more pass after heal. like its supposed to be.

nice sharp clean outline with decent size liner, then a fill in with a decent size shader, that fills good. 3RL is traumatic for this ,that is what i've learned. or maybe even a small shader group for outline and just fill inward, then swith to larger. basically common sense, as stupid as this looks i'm not that stupid.

its a bad spot and i have to do a yoga stretch to reach it. the only reason i went for it was because the design seems dummy proof. it was way harder and uncomfortable than i thought

on top of that i doodled and practiced lines and fills underneath the tattoo long ago knowing i was gonna do a solid fill. i'm pretty sure i have scarring from the practice work underneath i been figerfucking my damn machines with coils and springs and trying them on these spots. i wanted to make best use of the real estate. before final fill.

then on top of that i tried a rotary for the first time and i couldn't stop. i had a 3RS on it to just do the edges but i just kept going, and stopped when i knew i should do no more skin was getting fucked up. i knew i was fucking it up, just wanted to see how far i could take it. i'm only gonna bother with rotary mostly now.

i'm grateful to all i can learn from willing to share advice.

well it sounds like you have learn t a lot from it , thats the important thing , you did it on yourself and you fucked up but you know how to fix it , so its not a write off or a laser job , its just another run at it

That's raw (as in unfair).

yeah the skin is really mixed and in some pieces those marks make it impossible, as the needle keeps falling in OR ink bleeds in and you get black tick marks everywhere.

Next week i'm doing 2 days training with someone and I think he has a good quality practise skin for that, judging from the pictures i've seen.

I really hope to be graduating back to tattooing humans soon.

Knowling my luck the first one will have horiffic stretch marks of fire-damaged skin to work on

I would of used a 1209 long taper liner and a 1209 round shader for that piece and I also only use Dynamic black now for line work and solid fill.

I could be completely wrong here but it looks like you may have used too much vasoline (or whatever you use)

Looks a bit shite really,,, not a lover of slapping a design over another and calling it a cover up..and it does look a little risen, ( scar tissue)... the edges are quite fluffy,, even with tribal its important to get a nice consistent outline if you want them to look real neat,,, personally I'd have taken a 14rs to colour that one and a 5 or possibly a 7 to line....

agree its shitty. i'm gonna go over with bigger group and fill it in better. i felt i had to stop with the 3rs cuz causing damage and it is not filled right at all, i know right way to do now.
planning to post results, waiting for it to heal.
i'm afraid of the old lines being scarred and raised, thats wouldn't be fixable.

not a coverup of anything existing underneath, aside from doodling within the outline. if you mean the spider web, that one is staying
