picked up some realskinz that a friend reccomended. it was $14 for a sheet lil bigger than a piece of paper. it took way long to get here to Cali and they wouldn't answer my emails so i got nasty with them, and later that day it was in my mailbox.

don't be to hard on my "work".
its just doodling and seeing how it takes ink. this is only the second rubber skin i ever used, the first was ebay and it would not take ink at all.

its a smal 4" x 4" piece. i could not put on a stencil. i tried everything. someone told me to rub it down with alcohol and use stencil stuff. i thought i already tried that. so i just freehand doodled with a 7rl. experimented with some handspeed stuff.  lines don't come out great, some of those lines should be good, but all look jagged. fills okay.

on the backside i used diluted graywash and it blends, softshades pokay. thats the advantage over pigskin i would say. even real light values take evenly

this was my experience anyway.

From experience, the best way I found to stick a stencil to reelskin, I use dettol or stencil stuff, not saturated just sticky, apply stencil and leave it until next day, it will be dry and easy to work with.

between speedstick and the stencil stuff, the speedstick left a stencil but it wipes off as soon as you touch it. the stencil stuff only left a faint trace, which i could still work with as long as it stayed... but did not... a friend said something similar, to try wiping in real good with alcohol, apply stecil stuff and press with a book for a long time. next time i will have to try that. wait a loooong time...

i haven't bought any ebay skin in years, maybe its gotten better... do you think reelskinz is worth it?, its not terribly expensive and they claim its portforlio quality....?

Reelskin is very good, much better than all the cheap pre printed gum rubber crap on ebay from China.

Iv only ever used the cheaply Chinese ebay shit and havent got on with it. I looked into reelskin not long ago and it looks good, an a3 size piece costs just under £20. What i really wanna try is 'a pound of flesh'. Anyone got any experience with that?

I must say I think the only thing that drake skin is good for is maybe a coaster to sit your drinks on lol. Seriously though I only practice doing line work and properly holding the machine with them. I only did two of them and then went right in on my leg. Best thing use your thighs as practice skin.

i totally agree... none of this shit or pigskin will really give the experience of skin.

but self tattoo doesn't let you position right and really work like you can on someone else with proper form.

but it is the best... aside from a victim

but you only have so much room on your thighs before you have to move away from the thigh and it gets more challenging if you ask me.

this stuff is not bad at all... i have a new thread that looks much cleaner of this reelskin
