Hey, this is a new one i did.

I had quite massive problems with lining this time, maybe machine was not tuned well or I just did pause to long between last tattoo.

First two pics are from one week ago, last two from yesterday, second session.

Shading is easy and I like it, but lining an color packing still sucks like hell. I really want to do some oldschool stuff, but well he was requesting this sort of thing, so, here we go.
After it healed for one week i recognized lots of blow-outs (you call it like this, if you went to deep in the skin and it blurred a little?) and some lines were not deep enough and inconsistent. (I usually ride the needle when lining).
Color packing still sucks, I tried different needles this time but well, I think I go to fast. After some time I changed to riding the tube for coloring, I think it works better for me than riding the needle.

The mask/gloves are white, they are just bloody.

Ah yeah, and I have no Idea as how to color the water, thought of maybe some greenish/turquoise stuff, but It really seems strange to color water.

Interesting design, that for me stands up better as an outline than a coloured piece.

I notice you have dropped some shading in, like behind the bird and the tips of the flag. But the shading is inconsistent in terms of a light source. So the bird creates a shadow, but there is no shade on the barrel (which presumably is round) or much on the jacket, which would also have cylindrical elements, dark to lights. The very flat colour planes make the image look flat. Leaving some lighter colour where the light hits also adds depth.

Some designs need no shading and look great, bold old school for example, but this looks a bit mixed.

Maybe practise drawing some still life pieces using regular forms such as spheres, cylinders, cubes, cones etc using stuff from around your place. Set up a single light source, preferably from one side and focus on the rendering rather than precise outlines. Even setting up and looking will help, though pencil sketches will be better.

Anyway, always good to see work appearing...keep posting

being unsure and at your skill level you should pick a different design. come out better, look better and you'll be more confident.

what the hell is that anyway, a jack in the box coming out a barrel saluting while holding up the white flag with birds hanging out? and a monkey.

looks better with less color, overall visually you gave the guy what he wanted... unless thats your drawing...

Naa it's not my design, he wanted it like this. I like the birds and so on, but the overall design... Well he got what he wanted. I would not have done the Jacket in blue, no way, but he insisted it should be a "Captains Jacket" and they are blue.

I don't have a lot people to choose from, so I did what he wanted.
And he doesn't like B&G. It's hell with him, he is like “hmm that brown isn't right, couldn't you do it a little more yellowish?"

And I tell him "The design is shit, your Barrel is floating on top of the water like it has no weight".

Today I finished the flag and added a bug, now it is to be considered complete.
I need bolder Outlines, next time I will rework most of them, cause they are shit.
Will try 5 or 7RS next time for the lines, at least for the bold ones.

if your a beginner, with what you got going on there, you could crank out some stuff that looks cool. looks like you probably tattoo better than me... Crying or Very sad

retarded ass designs are gonna look stupid regardless... that green haired down syndrome jack in the box is not helping, what's with his face? and neither is the monkey fish frog, or the burnt out mutant butt beetle you added. is this a new style i don't know about?

i for one am all about the design, and like to speak on some, as for skill and technique i have little to offer. maybe someone else can point out your other shortcomings better.

if you used smaller than a 5 to outline that, thats not bad. a great tip i got from here is to use a 7 to line. it really helped, i was using a four, it was way hard to make strairt.

I for myself like old school.

But this guy... He's just idk. He goes to friend and gets an BW drawing from him, and I think Hits friend is totally bored from things like "and then you add an owl here and the Jack of course wears an inflantable swimming aid on his arm. And Hey, can you add an sloth with a hat here on the side?"
And than he comes with the design to me and says "this is what I want " but the design isn't really made with tattoing in mind and it's BW because the Designer is alcoholic and went drunk after 20 minutes ...

The face looks shit because of blood, but I had this several times like this and it always healed into white.
There are white areas on the bird (Woodpecker) that did not get so bloody.

My lesson was: for color fill, I'll ride the tube and do slow (!) circles. (at least with this settings/machine).

it looks like your liner needle is snagging the skin & not gliding through it..this could be down to a few things
machine set up
stretch
hand speed

all the above
